Them arrives in Haiti

The mission team arrived safely in Haiti yesterday. Half of them are going to the school tomorrow to help the teachers and the other half is going to the feeding center. Please remember this team in your prayers. They have much to do and we are sure that God has big things in store for them. Thank you for all your prayers!!

Pray for a replacement TV

An urgent request from Lyle, who is at our Pastors' Training Center in Ghana:

We had a disturbing incident happen last night. While we were sleeping someone came into the building, made their way to the second floor, passed by our rooms, entered the classroom and stole the TV. Thankfully that was all they took. It would have been very easy for them to have entered our rooms and robbed us as well, or worse.
Without a TV, we will not be able to proceed with classes beyond Wednesday as Sam McVay is teaching live until then.
My request is that you might make known the need to replace the TV to our friends and partners via emails, facebook, etc. and ask whether anyone would desire to donate to the cause.
As you know, the price of a TV in Ghana is more than double the cost of one in the US. This could be a serious set back for the school, but we are convinced, after much prayer, that we must move forward.

Peru: Watch and be Utterly Amazed

I (Kathryn) have just returned from leading a team of 17 people to Arequipa, Peru. God was so faithful to us and we saw Him work miracles among our team in many different ways.

Habakkuk 1:5, "Look at the nations and watch and be utterly amazed. For I am going to do things in your days you wouldn't believe, even if you were told."

The Mission team:

Hosted Medical clinics

Spent time praying over land that the missionaries HSM partners with have a desire to build a permanent Christian Hospital on.

Worked with children leading worship, sharing Bible Stories, making crafts and playing games.

Supplied food for a feeding center.

Worked in orphanages.

And much, MUCH MORE!

God was so faithful during our travels and had his hand on us this whole trip. Please continue to pray for the people of Peru and those who came to know Him as their personal Lord and Savior.

Gary and Ann Gramlich

Please be in Prayer for Gary and Ann Gramlich who joined the Heaven Sent Ministries missionary team in November of 2011. They specialize in using creative, “out of the box” Children and Family Ministry ideas and work as consultants, mentors & life coaches to churches around the country training and building leadership teams. They will be arriving soon in Chula Vista, Alabama for a Pastors Retreat Renovation & Balloon JAM. The Retreat will run from January 11^th – January 16^th. Please pray for them to be effective as they teach and equip the leaders in Chula Vista, and for there safe travel from Florida.

Food Headed for South Sudan

After almost nine months the 20 ft. shipping container (packaged at the Mercer County Hunger Challenge in February 2011) finely left our HSM headquarters headed for Central Equatoria, South Sudan. There has been much difficulty in scheduling its shipment as minty of you know that have been faithfully in prayer over these mounts. We received an email from our missionary contact there in Sudan (Charlotte) the day after the container shipped and wonted to share a portion of it with you our prayer partners.

“Dear HSM Family,

Praise the Lord! Thank you for the most wonderful news that the Container left for Sodan!

On behalf of Bush Telegraph Mission, and all those lost souls in Central Equatoria, South Sudan, who will be impacted by these life-saving Relief Supplies, we thank you with all our hearts!

As Heaven Sent Ministries strengthened the Church in south Sudan, our Church will do their part to use that ‘strength’ (from the food) to further Christ's love. What Satan intended for their destruction (starvation), the Lord, with your help, is turning around for His glory.”

Please join us in praise for the shipment of this much needed food. All honor and glory to our Lord and Savior!

Oasis – What’s happing?

Every Monday morning, Tim Swingle spends from 9am to noon with the group there at the Day Report Center. In addition to connecting one on one with participants, attending required classes with the group and assisting with transportation needs, Tim spends one hour in Bible study pointing them to Jesus Christ, the only One who can fill the emptiness that drives them to addictions.

On Thursdays at noon, the group from the center is bused over to the HSM facility for lunch and devotions. Afterward, they often help with cleaning our building, folding newsletters or whatever other project we happen to be in the middle of. Steve Brooks, one of our most faithful volunteers prepares the hot meal based on requests he receives from the group. His gift of hospitality to these friends of ours reflects his desire to use the gifts God has given him to point people to the savior of their lives. Often several folks from the community join us for lunch and spend time getting to know different ones personally. If you’re interested in investing an hour or two in the life of a recovering addict, please contact Tim Swingle for more information about the opportunities available to you. Feel free to stop in for lunch on Thursdays just to observe without any pressure to participate. Join Tim in the courtroom every Thursday afternoon at 4pm to support the Drug Court participants as they go before the judge for their weekly review. It’s a great way to say “I care; you’re important to me; keep up the good work!”

In addition to this, we are always in need of mentors and people willing to sponsor activities that we want to do for the group. A big part of our focus is helping those who have completed most of their requirements and are beginning to look for jobs, transportation, training, housing and most of all a loving church, new friends and new activities to fill the void left by the past addiction. Please pray that God would move in the hearts of men and women in this community, men and women who are willing to turn their fears and pre-conceived ideas over to God, trusting Him to use them to make a difference for eternity in the life of a young family or individual. The impact you can make is immeasurable.

What is Oasis?

When most people think about Heaven Sent Ministries, they think about shipping containers of food to countries in Africa, foreign mission trips around the world and summer mission team projects here in Princeton, West Virginia.
But there is another side to what we do here locally.

Early in 2009, Heaven Sent Ministries began a ministry in the Mercer County Court system reaching out to those who have found themselves in trouble due to substance abuse and the behaviors associated with it. Our desire as a staff is to reach out with love and acts of kindness to those who find themselves empty and struggling to find hope.

Early in 2011, it was reported that the new leading cause of death in West Virginia is drug overdose. Mercer County is number one in the nation for Hepatitis B and has one of the nation’s highest rates of HIV/AIDS. The biggest cause is promiscuity and the sharing of drug equipment. What a tragedy it would be if we were to look the other way and ignore an epidemic that is right outside our front door. Few families here can say they have not been personally affected by the substance abuse problem.

Our prayer is that these individuals might be reconciled to the God who created them, who loves them beyond measure and desires a personal relationship with them if they will only submit to Him in faith. Please pray with us.

Back from Haiti

As a part of our ministry at HSM, we send short-term mission teams around the World to work alongside missionaries to spread the Gospel.

Last week, I (Kathryn) returned from Haiti. I did a fact finding trip and worked with 2 different missionaries/organizations in order to create a partnership to send future teams.

Food Crisis.Pray.Get Involved.

FOOD CRISIS
      More than 12 million people are in urgent need of food, water, and medical care in drought-stricken Kenya, Somalia, and Ethiopia. Experts estimate that starvation and related diseases have already claimed the lives of over 29,000 children under age five. The United Nations is calling the crisis "the world's worst humanitarian disaster.”

       We are praying about ways that we at Heaven Sent Ministries can get involved. Please pray for us as we seek out opportunities and the contacts needed so that we may get a container of our food into Kenya.

We have received a call from a local ministry that is wanting to team up with us to help raise money to package food. In order to make this possible, we need to find an organization in Kenya that is able to receive our container. We will keep you updated on this as we are exploring more possibilities! HONDURAS
      Please pray for a missionary couple we work with in Honduras, Terry and Shari Sorah. They are in need of a little over $100,000.00 to purchase the property they are currently using for a feeding center. This amount also includes the cost of repairs that are needing to be done to the facility. They have prepared a proposal to submit in order to receive the funding needed to purchase the property.

Loving Others

In the world there is much turmoil. It can be unsettling at best, if we allow ourselves to focus on the bad news. The world needs to hear good news! Hopefully, as believers, we can see God at work in the midst of all the suffering and heartache and then look for opportunities to serve Him by helping others.

I like what Paul says in Philippians 2:4, "Put yourself aside, and help others get ahead. Don't be obsessed with getting your own advantage. Forget yourselves long enough to lend a helping hand" (The Message). As people struggle through difficult times, they are in need love and encouragement. We have the love message. It is the redemptive love of Jesus Christ. What better way can we help than to be a living example of His love?
